Song Review/ Pop : Talking to Sophie’s ‘Mariposa’

pop

Talking to Sophie is the singer-songwriter and klingklang banner of artist Marcel Krell. His style is an extension of the self, and passionately so. So much of his work is styled to articulate his brand of whimsy, deco, and imagery that create immersive connections. He creates musical pop collages that spell out moods, emotions, feelings, and experiences. His latest release is ‘Mariposa’, a playful, light, and airy pop mix.

Led with a looping piano-synth motif, his vocals create frames. Like a painting, each stroke, lyric and melody detail these frames, giving it a story, dimension, meaning, and life. It is a seemingly simple composition, but it is conceived with such an elegant and experimental mind, one that reconciles so many aspects of music, ideas, and stylistic nuances in ways that have never been done before.
