Album Review/ Alternative : Roam Like Ghosts’ ‘Church’

Roam Like Ghosts are an alternative band with a strong taste for diversity. They find their authentic sound in a pool of alternative, indie, folk, and Americana, creating a sound called "Emoacana." The best part of their music is the energy and the vibrations that come out of. Their soundscapes are marked by the will and passion to play, explore, grow, and thrive, both as humans and musicians. The trio have just released their latest album, ‘CHURCH’, a collection that announces the incredible range and depth of the band.

‘Death and Me’ introduces the album with its spirited, feel-good, indie rock energy. Every element: rhythms, vocals, melodies, riffs, basslines, all rise upwards to create a state of warmth, comfort and upliftment. We see this style featuring in tracks like ‘Casual Conversations about Serious Situations’ and ‘Thumbelina’. Rock intensive, instrumental jubilance and a bold vocal line that drives through the layered melodies to create energy and empowerment.

‘Hasta Luego’ sets a Latin blues mood, sensual, sentimental, intimate, and passionate. Its smooth grooves and mellow flow, tinged with the moody winks of blues poses a contrast to its predecessor.

The next three tracks, ‘The Weight’, ‘Futures’, and ‘Not Giving Up On You’ explore the softness introduced by Hasta Luego, taking it to slower dimensions of folk rock, alt country, and rustic acoustics. They are contemplative, expressive, and emotionally engaging. To immerse yourself in it is to be enveloped by its storytelling imagery, the expansive romanticism, and the aching sentimentality of it all.

‘Blame Game’, ‘So Hard to Say Goodbye’, and' Somnumbra Atra’ are also cut out of the same ethos. But these seem to carry a more pronounced melancholic spell. It’s at the core of it, oozing into the instrumental atmosphere, coloring the vocals, and refining the feeling musically. The melodies are warm, doting, and made to extend the sentiment; floating it to the doorstep of the listener’s consciousness and elevate them. Listen Now!
