Twice Dark’s ‘Telekinetic’ : A Dark Cinematic Pop Universe

To listen to Twice Dark is an immersive experience. Its cinematic weaves, bedazzled gothic realms, and fantastical elements create an otherworldly atmosphere. It is surreal, so spectacularly unique, dynamic and interactive. The artist attaches his music to the listener’s mind, digging through that inception to find things, create and expand it. And this kind of mind warp is welcoming and pleasingly stimulating. His latest release is the ‘Telekinetic’ album, a collection that he has been teasing with singles like ‘Necromantic’ and ‘Time Traveller’.

With these tracks, the artist set the scene, built the thematic foundations, the stylistic precepts that we see multiplying and evolving across the rest of the songs. The world gets more detailed, more deep, and more meaningful when you experience all the tracks coming together.

‘Night Shifts’ introduces the album. Despite the disco, colored synths, and pounding beats, the track is able to capture the deserted atmospheres of the theme. Its silence, an eerie loneliness. Built up with imagery of the sun coming up and the sky lightning, you travel through the arc that leads night to dawn. ‘Invisible Man’ is brighter and more ecstatic comparatively. In terms of build ups and energy quotients. There are anthemic moments which are sustained and spread out like a sky.

‘Phoenix’ creates a cinematic experience right off the bat. With the wind whistling, moving the darkness around, and revealing the energy underneath, the goth manifests with so much modernity and creativity. There is almost a sense of uplifting warmth to it which perhaps ties back to the thematic spirit of the song.

‘Mind Trap’ is designed like a labyrinth. A kaleidoscope of color with bass lines creating silent dimensions in the backdrop. The spaces that you touch upon and interact with are interesting and engaging. Ending on ‘Telekinetic’, the title track, the artist creates an edgy indie rock and dark electro pop blend. The melodic vocals, fuzzy riffs, luminous melodies and twinkling synths are reminiscent of a collaboration of The Smiths, Modest Mouse, and even a little bit of Arcade Fire’. The artist focuses on the electric and electrifying aspects of the theme and takes it to high places from there. Listen Now!
