The Engegård Quartet Dispels a Pastoral Serenity with Folk Classicals in ‘Joik Suite’

The Engegård Quartet is a classical music ensemble from Norway with a remarkably creative limb. Spanning across their insightful interpretations of the classical reserve to original compositions is a staunch sense of individualism and independence.

There’s passion and postulation, play and purpose to every piece. And as we go through their rivers of instrumentation, we experience melodies infused with philosophy and ruminations; a Scandinavian perspective perhaps. Their latest single is ‘Joik Suite’ that blends traditional folk instrumentals with classical fringes to produce a pastoral serenity.

Thin leaves of violin melodies are made jubilant with animated undernotes of cello and viola. The rhythm is asymmetrical and free flowing, almost conversational. Brief notes, quivering accents, and raw chorals rise and fall like undulating tides. Listen Now!

The Engegård Quartet is Arvid Engegård and Laura Custodio Sabas on Violins, Juliet Jopling on the Viola, and Jan Clemens Carlsen on the Cello.
