PUMP5’s ‘The Paradise Place’ is a Grand Punk Rock Manifesto
PUMP5 is an indie rock band that dive hardcore into the spectrum of the genre, fleshing out punk, grunge, garage, and hard rock with loud and flamboyant elements. Their latest release, ‘Paradise Place’ is the band’s third official studio album. Blending classic 70s styles with contemporary interpretations, the collection carries a wealth of references ranging from Queen, The Beach Boys, and Rolling Stones, among others. And the quantum of energy loaded into the ten tracks can power a whole ass town. If you enjoy bands with a legendary will to play and an evolving soundscape, then PUMP5 is for you.
The Paradise Place opens with ‘Hello’. It is a voracious punk rock track with bold beat and bass imprints. The riffs splatter and the vocals tear into the soundscape with passionate heartache. The vocalist’s elastic evocations, stretching in and out of octaves is instantly reminiscent of Freddy Mercury.

‘Make Me’ reinforces the angst of punk but in a more Ramones and Sex Pistols kind of way. We see shards of nu-metal and hard rock carved into it like thunder. This soundscape design reappears later in the album in tracks like ‘I Promise’ and ‘Breakin Down’. Driven by launching vocals, raining riffs and formidable beats, the soundscape is in a constant upward momentum, piercing through ascending levels of energy.
‘Circus’ is next up. Angling towards tragic darkness, the soul rock of the song delivers a very powerful interpretation of the theme. With progressions, the loneliness and despair of tragedy is depicted with heavier and more intense structures like shredding, face melting riffs, and tsunamic vocals. ‘Cat Sung’, ‘Junk Man’ and ‘Rain’ present their own versions of this progressive soul rock design.
The album is a sublime punk manifesto, celebrating all epochs and variations of the genre. But they don’t just stop there. Mixed with innovative and experimental interpretations, the band takes it to the next level, a level that is born out of their pure and severe love for punk. Listen Now!
