Moose Wrench Forge an Experimental Prog Rock Niche with EP, ‘Not Dead Yet’

Moose Wrench has a flair for experimental rock. With bold textures, defiant spirit, strong concept, and sonic conviction, they forge a distinct niche. The band’s latest EP, ‘Not Dead Yet’ perfectly captures this energy. It is as if all the tracks were fathomed out of a dream. There’s a sense of convolution within the soundscapes that stimulate the mind and impels it to catch up. The artists have a way of sound building that enlivens the listening experience. Each track is a living, breathing fabric that forms in real time, interacts with your imagination and folds you into it. Moose Wrench’s body of work is a true celebration of rock and all its extrapolations in the same way Pink Floyd’s, Led Zeppelin's and The Moody Blues’ was. Listen Now!

‘Directionless Twat’ breaks out with a strong momentum. The melody line is relentless and unbreakable, rolling into walls of groovy riffs, experimental drums beats, evolving rhythms, and eclectic vocals. There’s deliberate disarray splattered across the track, that perhaps plugs into the theme of the track. ‘Ginnel Dick’ forms one riff block to the next. Avant garde vocals are grounded by the rhythmic symmetry. Angelic harmonies and haunting baritones add an absurdist dimension to it, casting it in ethereal wind.

‘Don't Let Me Down’ has a pulsing rhythm and texture that will revive you. The experimental undertones rise up to the surface, marking the vocals and guitar riffs. ‘Not Dead Yet’ follows with a strident punk momentum. Sprinkled across the mercurial punk beat line are shavings of riffs and growling metal vocals. It presents like the composition is grabbed from all sides, beeping with frequency and intensity shifts.

‘Dingleberry Fyn’ takes it up another notch, packing a punch with its relentless percussive performance and matching vocal charisma. ‘Not My Name’ concludes the album. There’s funk in its disjointed unions, in its vocal march, and in the way the bass grooves fit into the beat line.

Moose Wrench are a trio hailing from Leeds. Each of their compositions are conceived as both thematic journey and destination. And in listening to it, you’re viscerally exposed to their vision, as it evolves and forms. There’s a stark absurdism that sparks it all; taking a Dalian dimension as they explore their midlife crises.
