Mercurius’ ‘Evocation’ : An Alternative Rock Daze
Mercurius is an alt rock father-son band. The duo’s ideas have that revolutionary 90s ethos to it. And embellished with sophisticated technique, remarkable skill, a burgeoning passion, and a strong camaraderie, their music is where it’s at. With ‘Evocation’, their latest release, the band brings a gritty and transcendental dimension with a prog rock and alternative blends.
A roaming, distortive bassline slathers the soundscape in dazing dissonance. Atmospheric riffs, punching beats, and an expanding rhythm create incredible layers. And traveling through them, the vocals seem to gain an evocative power that rides into appreciating the theme. This intention in sound design uncovers the elegant and creative workings of the band. We also see cerebral elements and psychedelic accents infused into this. It is fantastically stimulating and sedating. If you enjoy the work of Nirvana, REM, and Talking Heads, you’re sure to enjoy Mercurius.
