Interview : Lacobo-Jomes’s Blood on the Blade
Hey! We’re so excited to have this interview with you! Congratulations on the release of ‘Blood on the Blade’. The track is a slow-burn masterpiece. What inspired its creation and how did you go about conceptualizing it with this track?
I have the view that once a song leaves the artist’s nest, it takes on a new persona: one which carries a range of meanings and interpretations for the listener. That said, the impetus behind this track was borne of sadness, anger and despair. Almost daily, we hear of young, vulnerable people committing random acts of violence - knife crime especially -having been manipulated and coerced in some way by those with ‘power’. A perverse sense of paranoia can too easily take hold and pervade our lives with fear; therefore, I needed the lyric to also offer comfort, hope and a chance of redemption - hence the line, "...love will find a way to atone for you."All your tracks illustrate deep explorations of human emotion. What about this theme sparks your creativity, curiosity, and imagination?
Human emotion is a deep and rich pool from which to become inspired. Emotionslways lead to inspiration in some shape or form. If nothing else, I want the listener to feel something from listening to my songs and to make their own emotional connections with both the music and the lyrics.
Your stylistic pallets are largely rock, indie and alt rock. Can you tell us a little about how the genre appeals to you? What about it helps you achieve your vision?
I always look for authenticity in music - it has to be real and true. Alternative rock is not swayed by popular opinion, it drives its own course and sets its own values - that's the music I enjoy and that's the music I want to create.
Who are some of the artists who inspired you in your formative years as a musician and why?
I have always been inspired by the storytelling of Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs). She was the cataliyst for writing meaningful, heartfelt melodies and lyrics - her voice has a special place in my conception of how music work and how. as singer and songwriter, you can be intimate, evocative, and beautiful.
Tell us a little about the projects and releases you have lined up for the near future.
This single and accompanying video - 'Blood on the Blade' - is the opening track to my forthcoming, five track EP, 'Sounds of Emotion'. It is scheduled for release on all streaming platforms on 3rd November 2023.
