Creatures At Play Blend the Classic With Contemporary in ‘Let’s Play Again’

Creatures At Play is the product of musicians Mike Walker and Alex Adamson. Between the two of them, the compositions range from classic to contemporary, reflecting the influences of artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Anderson .Paak and Daniel Caesar. ‘Let’s Play Again’ is the latest album of the duo. Stretching across ten tracks, it celebrates retro rock, blues, and alt-country alongside neo-soul blooms.

The soundscapes are intuitive spreads of melody, vocals, and emotion. ‘If You Always Do’ opens the album. Its combination of fluid synths, groovy blues, and R&B silk is classic for the most part. Even the vocal inflections and delivery are vested with that old-school spirit of sincerity and simplicity. The guitar work exemplifies elegance and subtly as it ebbs and flows through sonic frames.

‘Home’ follows with yet another classic design. Introduced by sweeping violin melodies and earnest vocals, it depicts romance and love the way poets do. Between vocals, the artists create panaromic instrumental flows. It is a sphere of dreamy visuals and sound.

‘Inside’ and ‘Cold’ are composed with similar propensities towards simplicity, contemplation, and sentiment. By using mellow instrumental lines and soft vocals, the artists strive to create a thematic ambience that encapsulates the listener.

With tracks like ‘Rise’, ‘Surely Do’ and ‘On The Money’, we see rhythmic dynamism, acoustic strings, and vocals spun with a contemporary influence. Tempered with evergreen classic accents, these tracks are very creatively strung.

In ‘Lucky’, we see energy. Underscored with tropical beat signatures, Latin blues rock, and a dash of alt-country, it is rivetingly eclectic. The vocals skillfully emulate the essence of this mixture to flesh out the melancholy, romanticism, and fun of the theme.

The duo’s passion lies with R&B. This album showcases just how much they love it. Each track is an innovative and spell-binding interpretation of the genre. They inculcate subtle and drastic variants to fathom a beautiful spectrum. In creating and playing these tracks, the duo celebrate its versatility and range, across time and space. Listen Now!
