Anna Salman Explores The Rhythms, Melodies, & Gradients of Love in ‘This Summer Won’t Last’

Anna Salman is a singer-songwriter and folk-pop artist from Pakistan. Her tracks are poetic and youthful deliberations on life, love, and everything in between. With narrative lyrical styles and a reflective vocal quality, she crafts acoustic soundscapes that are reminiscent of Elliot Smith, Phoebe Bridgers, and Japanese Breakfast. Anna’s soundscapes are layered experiences. Her storytelling is not always linear. Details, references and elaborations create retrospective contexts, tinted with romanticism, melodrama, and nostalgia. So the joy of experiencing her soundscape is delicate and subtle.

Her latest release is her debut album, ‘This Summer Won’t Last’. The collection explores the rhythms, gradients, melodies, and atmospheres of being in love. The artist sings about it, details it like poets detail changing seasons. All the songs have an ambient quality. They are mood frames that evolve with each passing moment.

The track, ‘Not The One’ recounts a fading relationship. It is crafted entirely with specks of music. The melodic intricacies and vocal tides are so easy to dissolve into. ‘I’d Like To Think’ on the other hand forms on the brink of falling in love. The magic of it all is tempered with melancholy. Going back and forth between the present and past, the song reveals distinct scenes of memory and emotion. ‘Summer’ and ‘Blood Rush’ are echoing swirls. Shimmering with ethereal resonance, soft melodies, and blurred recollections, it is incredibly romantic. Both tracks have undulating sentiments that drop and peak phenomenally.

Tracks like ‘Miracle Worker’ and ‘High School’ have more pop in them. Their sound is reminiscent of a blend of Taylor Swift’s Folklore Era and the 1989 Era. While the former is bolstered with electric riffs and bass lines, the latter enjoys colorful synth fringes and dance beats.

The album concludes with ‘Thanks For Not Loving Me’. It is a contemplative, synth-infused folk pop track that completely immerses the listener. Anna’s vocals impress beautiful emotional details on the brimming melodic tapestry. It is incredible how she is able to weave grief and disappointment with joy and wisdom. The artist’s fluency in expressing human emotion and experience is a poetic documentation that you can’t help return to. Listen Now!
