Allen Kai - Lang Yu Composes a Contemplative Experience with ‘Winds of Change’

Composer and pianist, Allen Kai - Lang Yu has released his album, ‘Winds of Change’. It is a collection of twelve tracks, each one presenting a rhythm; a wind as it blows through various frames. The artist molds them with beautiful personalities and perspectives. They are playfully ambient instrumentals vested with fluid concepts and fleeting emotions. This is the artist’s first album release and features the arrangement and performance of Victor Hugo Morales. Listen Now!

‘Whispers of the Wind’ introduces the album. Its glassy notes form to an oriental rhythm. At the summit of melodic waves, it achieves a western classical gradient. This duality carries into the rest of the composition. Perhaps it represents the influences of the two cultures that the artist was exposed to : Asian & Western. ‘Tango Fantasia’ plays next with a whimsical drama. The theatrical keys and dual tonalities mark a mellow hyperactivity that brings out the theme.

‘Peoples and Traditions’ is a gradual formation, much like the two thematic elements interact. Each note is written with a bass resonance to create an atmosphere of interchange and connection. It is a cycle of one being born out of another.‘A Fairy’s Tale’ is a waltz score. Its chromatic notes and softness reckon a plush dream with romantic and ruminative elements. Despite the fantasy of being a fairy, there’s a level of relatability to it.

‘Cityscapes’ is up next. It stirs up an urban imagination. The artist strings it with informal scenes, infusing them with casual activity, mundanity, and random connections. It is the wayward observations of the city as made by an idle mind. ‘Pastoral River’ inspires a lilting train of thought. With its gentle curves and continuous course, you can practically vanish into boundless contemplations.

Allen knows exactly how to extract feelings from the natural ambience. He gives emotions a rhythm, a pitch, and a place that loops into the listener’s subconscious to elicit the theme. We see this in ‘A Mother’s Voice’, ‘A Spiritual Walk’ and ‘A Joyful Ride’. It might be instrumentals with no lyrical direction, but the tale and the experience transfers in their entirety.
