Album Review/ Indie Rock : Fred Paa Jord’s ‘pax internationalis’

Fred Paa Jord is an indie rock band who playback till they connect with the retro, with the nostalgia. They are a very expressive band. Mellow but crafty and full of creative ideas. And the result is a soothing which sometimes resembles the soft ring of light around the sun and other times, a philosophical endeavour. Like a circle of life. Their tracks always carry a contemplative quotient in them. You don’t have to tap into them but if you do, you start to always hear their thoughts, feel their feelings, and gain their beauty.

This is especially wonderful because the band is made up of deep feelers who operate in the abstract sphere. Like birds flying in the sky. Their latest release is the ‘pax internationalis’ album, a collection that fosters all these characteristics and then some. Most of the sonic moments and experiences that you’ll have are inexplicable with words. It’s meant to be heart and felt by each individual person as they are, as they feel, as they perceive. But it casts that beautiful film, a filter almost that romanticizes life.

In tracks like ‘indigo’ and ‘swamp song’ you’ll be able to spread out smoothly, like melted butter. The instrumentals cast a daze, so fluid, so fresh, and so delicate that it’ll feel like you’re in flight. It comes with bliss. There is dynamism but they are intricate and softly knotted. ‘Flora’ and ‘Tonga’ speculate with warm pallets. The guitar work in the former can be compared to writing a letter. It flows from one line to another, imparting fluid information, a stream of consciousness of sorts. Tonga, on the other hand, forms in motifs, looping and repeating over and over. Marked by quirk and the coast, it is almost beachy.

‘Cape to Cape’ also has a warm palette. But the instrumental work on that is more descriptive, like it is forging something, giving it shape, color, and a sense of self. There is a lot of whimsy in it and also lined with feel good melodies.

‘Rhodos 86’ and ‘The Sundowner’ are both tracks that are detailed with mercurial beat lines. With soft, powder beats, the song seems to be carried by a gust of wind. It is emphatic with a lot of instrumental inflections and markings. And finally, the title track, a composition that is dreamy, psychedelic, and moody. It has sensual tones and charismatic strokes to pair with it. Harmonies, plush and pliant, glow into the soundscape. And it seemingly carries a smooth mixture of all the sound profiles explored in detail in the other tracks. All introduced and held within this beautiful song. Listen Now!
