Album Review/ Indie Pop : Shane Rennison’s ‘Live at the Outlier Inn 2’

The contemplative indie pop artist, Shane Rennison has released his latest EP, ‘Live at the Outlier Inn 2’. It carries four tracks from his album, ‘Irrational’ rendered live at the Outlier Inn. With these live recordings, in addition to casting the composition in a more intimate and candid light, the artist softens it and makes each composition’s emotion and experience available in real time. They make for quite a delightful listening experience, with improv, in the moment touches which fleshes out the free and uninhibited artistic essence of Shane.

The artist has cherry-picked from the original album, choosing the title track along with three of fan favorites. With each performance, he not only reclaims the stylistic elements that charmed us in his debut but refines them, elevates them. Be it storytelling, contemplative energy, bright melodies, or the more mellow undertones that we have come to love. In ‘Irrational - Live At The Outlier Inn’, the track showcases a melodic dynamism. Engaged with storytelling dramatics, and fine vocal line, and an emphatic beat, the track comes alive with emotion. Piano keys cultivated into indie rock, into indie pop, with fringes of melting synths.

‘I Think It’s You’ leads with its charming piano line and a gentle acoustic guitar. It has that classic contemporary pop flow which is made, occasionally to delve into the pop that is associated with artists like Charlie Puth and Ed Sheeran. Its melancholy and heartfelt flow spills into the next track, ‘Losin’ You’. It has a rich folk flavor to it, rustic, ardently with a sweet sentiment underlining it. You’ll see coarser more bare instrumentals, and the vocals incredibly rise to match this melodic aesthetic.

Ending with ‘Hey Hey Hey’, he leaves his signature blend of an all feeling rock, pop, and alt folk. There is that freshness, both sonically and lyrically that you can readily imbibe into the reflections of your own life. The connection that was forged across the last three tracks is strengthened and expanded quite beautifully. Listen Now!
