Album Review : Kully Bath’s ‘Rising Tides’

Kully Bath’s ‘Rising Tides EP’ is an undulating collection of soulful melodies and deep ruminations. It is an autobiographical piece that is molded with real experience and emotion. Every sonic moment is an interaction with the artist’s intimate sentiments, in that it absorbs and suspends the listener in her consciousness. Through profound lyrical explorations and melodic curation, her music fathoms a new way of seeing, thinking, experiencing, and expressing.

The EP opens with ‘God’s Calling’. Acoustic piano keys and percussive echoes set the stage for Kully’s woeful soliloquy. Radiant with melancholy and resigned with grief, the track explores the gashing pain of losing someone you love. The narrative she spins around the event is both visceral and gracious.

‘Rain Falls Inside’ forms along the same introspective plane. Forming with and around ethereal piano melodies, her vocals shape the thawing darkness of sadness. ‘Born to be Brave’ marks the rising wave, so to speak. It has an uplifting atmosphere, a hopeful will that shakes off the hold of the melancholy. It is amazing how with the same sonic elements, she crafts the lifts and lulls of life.

Up next is ‘Chain Reactions’. Glinting strings dispels warmth. Drawing from it, the vocals get into themes like healing, breaking the cycle, and escape from the bonds of bad patterns. These tracks are special because they don’t neglect the abyss and the pain that connects sadness to happiness. It chronicles the human experience in a way that is authentic and universal.

Part of growing and healing is the process of rediscovering who you are. That’s what this last track, ‘Stranger to Myself’ explores. Kully’s vocals are as expressive as ever as she weaves a tapestry of strain, self-doubt, strangeness, and strength.

This is Kully’s debut release, which she led up to track by track through the year (2023). Her tracks are minimalistically composed with ambient melodies and dilated rhythms. It presents a boundlessness that she vocally infuses with incredible context and meaning. Listen Now!
