9 ‘o’ Clock Nasty ‘Redreads 1’ is a Electrified Funk Rock Collection

We all know 9 ‘o’ Clock Nasty to be a funk rock/ absurdist banner that presents incredible frames of human experience in all its random glory. Their past couple of releases have been especially brilliant, demonstrating a deliberate intention towards ambivalence, ambiguity, drama, and action. They each had cerebral components that were driven by unusual rhythm patterns, intuitive bursts of energy, and undeniable charisma. And now, for their latest release, ‘Retreads 1’, the band collaborates with producer Preyswitch to cast these narratives in new perspectives and interpretations. In a way that not only retains the essence of them but elevates it.

In ‘Bad Monkey’, the spaces between vocals are filled with infinities of synths and beats. The chaos of the original version is an undercurrent that manifests are symmetric patterns on the electronic/ synthwave front. Preyswitch leverages the dynamism of the band’s style/ sound to drive it to versatile atmospheres. We see this in ‘Smash, Grab, and Go’ as well. The momentum, textures, tempo, and rhythmic movement is all rooted in 9 ‘o’ clock Nasty’s playful, creative, spontaneous sonic spirit. The emphatic vocals of the original track is celebrated by Preyswitch’s beat lines, funky synths, and electro.

The last track is ‘Crowland’ in which we see the dystopia of the primary track being darkened and deepened by Preyswitch. With an influx of details, the track notes the intention of the track and builds it along that same orientation. The basslines, melodies, and beat formations are especially impressive, both in idea and conceptual execution. If you enjoy unique and creative soundscapes that challenge, inspire, and entertain the mind, this three-track collection is for you. Listen Now!
