The Margaret Hooligans’ ‘Royal Octopus Canal’ Rides With Incredible Grit

The Margaret Hooligans are back to their shenanigans and it is surreal and outlandish this time. The transcendental rock duo have just released their single, ‘Royal Octopus Canal’, a garage rock enigma that is spruced with striking blues, roaring grunge, experimental rhythms, and an ethos that will launch you into new worlds. It's a song about breakups; their resistance, resilience and ruin blossoms in the inlaid and ubiquitous grit. Commenting on its sonic spirit, the duo called it the bastard child of Patti Smith and Bikini Kill. Listen Now!

There’s a theatrical grandeur to the composition. In the way the ukulele and beats form. They are intuitive reactions to Meg’s vocal pulse. Wracked with stormy riffs and asymmetrical rhythms, the sultry chaos swirls into the soundscape. A surge of folk rock at the bridge marks the beginning of exponential progressions that deliver us into a fantastic climax.
