Sukh’s ‘Heading East’ Unfurls With Technicolor Alt Folk Romance

Sukh has curated a joyful brand of pop, informed by alt folk, contemporary arenas, and soft textures. His tracks are contemplative with a vibrant but tender swirl of melody. The listening experience is marked by a rich, textured presence that traverses so many planes of sonic sentiments. His latest release is ‘Heading East’, an album that explores life through specific and succint lenses. Across eight tracks, he delightfully carries thoughts through shimmering acoustic and instrumental elements.

The collection is introduced by ‘Kind’. The song has a continuous melodic progression that forms plush against rolling rhythms, expressive baritones, and mellow beats. Inspired by Americana, folk, and a country chemistry, the pop comes alive in idyllic frames. This theme transfers into the next track as well, ‘For The Road’. Blending John Mayer with One Republic, there is country, pop, and rock, all wrapped up in an anthem.

‘Far’ is more stripped. The spaces are shared by intimate vocals and acoustics. As it unravels, it dives into a bluesy rock depth, so beautifully dazing. ‘Conquered’ brings a dream pop flavor to the album. With soft synths dispersing across, an 80s ethos mingled seamlessly with an Ed-Sheeran like lyrical pop.

The variations the artist traces within the alt folk sphere is quite creative. So many dimensions, planes, textures that each track is a new world you inhabit. ‘Love Atom’, ‘Home’, and ‘If You Are’ are slow forming emotion spheres that inflate with introspective lyrics and tales. Rustic and contemporary blend, blurring the lines of indie rock, dream pop, and alt folk. ‘Faith’ has an electric rock presence, fluid and buoyant, plush and pliant, in a way that takes us back to Coldplay.
