Song Review/ Pop : Casey McQuillen’s ‘Better’
Casey McQuillen tells stories. Stories about life, love, romance, and everything in between. Her track is a delightful stylistic mix of Charlie XCX’s Boys era, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter. There is an intimacy to all her soundscapes, that instantly draws the listener in and connects them to the theme. Like in her latest single, ‘Better’, the artist explores the playfulness of a girl in love with a guy who is already in a relationship.
It is not intense, but light, airy and dreamy. There is a girlhood innocence to it which readily melts into the dream pop/ soft pop atmosphere that she crafts for it. Through the track, the protagonist is writing an imaginary note to the guy she loves about all the things she would make better in his life if she got the chance. It’s fun and so enjoyable.
