Song Review/ Indie Rock : Ferrn’s ‘True Sleep Waits’

Ferrn embraces a sonic fluidity that holds space for everything. Whatever it absorbs, the soundscape is infused with the ability to create context around it. This free stylistic quotient has a way of carrying into the listener, liberating them in unexpected ways. His latest release is the ‘Endless and Elsewhere’ album, a collection that showcases infinity in both cerebral and sensual ways. Its luminous textures, light countenance, vibrant moods, and floating energies are so readily absorbable. It’s like a happy pill that infuses sensibilities.

‘True Sleep Waits’ is a track taken from this collection. Imagine a psychedelic indie rock pulse, swirled and played around with funk, disco, modern electronica, ambient abstractions, and aural effects. There are undertones of jazz that spark along the edges of the vocals. And the synths, so plush, so colorful, are splashy with tonalities.

However, despite the seeming dynamism, it nurtures a progressing sense of serenity and expanse. That feeling of bottomlessness and uncontainable-ness that you experience is common across the album, tying into the theme in so many ways. If Tame Impala were to collaborate with FKJ and emulate the ideas of Daft Punk, then it would sound like this artist. Listen Now!

The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
