Song Review/ Grunge : Sleeps While Walking’s ‘No One’s Fool’

The dimensions and layers of Chicago’s Sleeps While Walking is quite remarkable. Their transformation of grunge into, not only a sedating and psychedelic, but a contemplative style is inspired in its novelty and in its creative emergence. In their latest self-titled album, the band explores a horizon of rock; flowing through frames of indie rock and hard rock before sparking a grunge rock fire that is as intense and widespread as a forest fire. We see this build up especially exemplified in the track, ‘No One’s Fool’.

The initial dazing sphere of dimmed vocals and veiled textures is thrown into a deeper, more complex exploration half way into it. The riffs are glistening rings, and the bass lines driving them are mountainous and powerful. It’s like you’re at sea and a torrential storm is raging. The melancholy is hardcore and even give away some emo notes. Listen Now!
