Song Review/ Blues : Strange and The Familiars’ ‘Pretty Red Dress’
Strange and The Familiars’ forms in the shadows, out of shadows. It feast on the mysteries, the secrets and the ambiguity of dark spaces. Their latest track is ‘Pretty Red Dress’, a track that is colored dark red, maroon with romance. It is melancholic, sultry, and so blue. The band creates an atmosphere of blackness, a void almost which is then filled in with ribbons of blues.
The vocals are as charismatic and arresting as an underground bar performer in the 80s. Lavish and so lush with emotion and emphasis, she meanders through the miasma of the song. The soundscape soon lights up with bluesy instrumentals, flushing it with a mellow and calculated dynamism. Even the backdrop comes under the melancholy of the protagonist and like a scene in a book or a movie, it becomes an extension of the vocals, of the protagonist and her experience. It is so well made and so wonderfully simple that you’ll find yourself craving for that elegance over and over. Listen Now!
