Sharon Lia Band’s ‘EXPANSE’ : Bejewelled Synth Rock

Sharon Lia Band is an electro pop group with a range that remarks on their stylistic liberation. They bring their electronic vision to structures of pop, rock, and even neo-classicals to create a vibrant and varied sonic engagement. Dealing with powerful themes that are deep and personal to them, each composition seems to transfer real time emotions to the listener. Their latest release is ‘EXPANSE’, a 26-track LP, split into two distinct parts. Disc 1 contains original and new tracks while Disc 2 carries instrumental and symphonic versions of these tracks. It is a very holistic collection in that, you get to witness every creative path, exploration and direction that the band saw. With each version you gain a new dimension, altitude and perspective.

Disc 1 opens with the intro- ‘The Expanse’ which lays out the spectrum and the sense of boundlessness that the band is going for. ‘Find Something to Believe In’ has electro rock, pop and power pop angles. The vocals are bold and driving, fleshed out with an instrumental grandeur that flares up in you. ‘I Will Wait’ has a softer sentiment and it translates to the evocative highs that the band crafts. Twinkling piano lines and drizzling harmonies are raised into heartfelt electro rock flows. We see similar trajectories in ‘Invisible’. Orchestras of melancholy and heartache that spreads out, uninhibited to expansive edges.

‘Love You Forever’ is a softer track. Imagine Celine Dion and Adele-type vocals stretching evocatively in lofty synth scape. It showcases depths and peaks spectacularly without losing authenticity. In ‘Blue Skies’ and ‘The Light’, we encounter similar ethereal flows. On the other hand, in ‘I Will Remember’ and ‘Feel it In My Bones’ have a ring of rock swelling into the swishing electronica.

Disc 2, the symphonic versions are a little more dramatic, flushed with intricate melodies and an instrumental complexity that you can spend a whole life studying. The transitions are seamless, swept with cinematic elements and drastic thresholds. It’s like listening to a musical. That theatrical sway blends into ballads into sweet pieces of emotion.

And in the instrumental versions, you can stray, roam the labyrinth of the disc 1 tracks. Without the vocals, a whole abyss lightens up, full of color, vibrance and vivid sensibilities. It can be anything you want it to be. And there’s an imaginative freedom and personal emotional experience in that. Listen Now!
