Polyvoda Elates With Latest Mellow Hip-Hop Album ‘Pilgrims Never Come Back’

The Ukraine-based neo-soul band is known for their novel sound. Refracting post rock, indie and alternative genres with experimental and innovative elements, their sonic sphere is resounding with creativity, insight and profound perspectives. It’s like a light breeze that alleviates the summer heat. Refreshing in its originality and standing out in its natural levity. Formed in 2022, the group explores many themes, consistently elevating it to transcendental planes of experience. ‘Pilgrims Never Come Back’ is Polyvoda’s latest release; a spanning album of eight songs that grapple with the overlapping spaces between nature and human experience.

It’s a hip-hop collection that is wired with conscious narratives, modest modernity, funk accents, and alternative expression. It is the voice of the contemporary world. All the tracks would perfectly fit into the new age hip-hop section of the colors catalogue. The band leaves a lot of space for nebulousness, recognising its potential for contemplation and interesting dialogue. And stylistically, you’ll find yourself drawing parallels to artists like Loyle Carner, Jehst, Kae Tempest, and the like. Listen Now!

‘Queens’ opens the album. With plush synth-based acoustics, soft hip-hop grooves, and neo-soul vocals, it celebrates the majesty of womanhood in all the roles they have, are, and will play in the world. In tracks like ‘Homeless’ and ‘Ricochet’, you’ll experience a beat fiesta. The soundscapes are marked by the band’s love for juxtaposing eclectic rhythms. The verses are underpinned with shifting melody lines, and knocking beats. While the melodic moods and stylings are varied, their essence intersects where the innovative pulse begins.

You will see this feature recurring in the other tracks as well. ‘Drunken Road’ is built with a sense of spontaneity, perfectly alluding to the title. The verses are delivered with the sultry and dazing drawl of SZA. And as it mingles with the pastel flashes of melody and synths, it is extremely whimsical. ‘Fog’ and ‘Morning’ are twin tracks of sorts that pass us through to the end of the album. The title track concludes the collection. It is melodically lilting, carrying lightly into the evocative vocals of the vocalist. This composition is seemingly inspired by classical structures, modernized by the sonically erudite mind of the band.
