Peruse The Alt-Country Catalog of ‘For King & Country’s’ ‘Unsung Hero’

For KING & COUNTRY have proved their sonic dynamism and versatility by now. The duo with their plentiful accolades and decorations have a perfect sonic brand, which they not only reinforce but elevate with passage of time. The Grammy-winning brothers, Joel & Luke Smallbone have now released their latest album, ‘Unsung Hero’. It is an indie, alt country collection. Its stylistic essence spans across time, reminding of Phil Collins, Elton John, John Mayer, James Taylor, and others like them. The album also hosts a range of artists and sports some fun surprises for the listener. Read on to find out what they are!

The album opens with ‘You’re the Voice’, a track that traces country style vocals with contemporary synth pop accents. The hook at the chorus is catchy and addictive as it launches the listener into a great trance. Experiencing the point where the genres interact is so scintillating and subtle. ‘Place in this World (ft. Michael W Smith) has that classic Phil Collins vibe. Soft, contemplative, feel-good, and touching vocal sentiments.

‘She Believes’ is a contemporary pop expanse. The lofty vocals are dilated by the stretching veils of neo-classicals. They contrast and complement each other throughout the composition in a way that empowers the theme. ‘To hell with the devil (ft. lecrae and Stryper) is up next. A compelling hip-hop track that bounces in the mind like a pinball. There’s an Imagine Dragonesque chorus that ride the Amine-like rap home.

‘Checking In (ft. Lee Brice)’ is more of a rustic folk song. Slow and old school, flowing with sentiment and tale, it is incredibly powerful. ‘You Make Everything Beautiful’, follows suit with yet another mellow, narrative, and flow of consciousness rhythm. Featuring Rebecca St. James on the vocal harmonies, there’s a romantic element that nicely shapes the theme.

The collection is a spectrum, carrying intricate variations of indie pop, folk, country, alongside their contemporary and classic expression. While ‘Rhythm of Heart’ will remind you of artists like BØRNS and the Neighborhood, the title track and ‘Harmony’ will take you to moments of Adele, A Great Big World, and Celine Dion. Each track carries with it the diversity of the artists and their intention. When a song comes on, it beautifully aligns with the growing continuum that the album was intended as. Dressed in small dainty details and sweet sentiments, intricacy is all over it. If you are in the market for a comforting, thoughtful, and gracefully melodious music, then this album is for you.
