Odelet’s ‘Pisces Pie’ is a Delectable Neo Jazz Consciousness

Odelet creates aesthetic sonic ambiences. Her soundscapes are self-contained, with unique ecosystems of human emotion, experience and encounters. Dreamy acoustics weave into soft, sedating blues. Seductive vocals sink their teeth into the diffusing jazz. It’s like watching the time pass and seasons change. Each moment is enriched with details, small and minuscule; subtle and beautiful. The more you observe, the more the details form, the consciousness deepens. ‘Pisces Pie’ is Odelet’s debut album in which her drawling vocals find pairings with angelic, quirky, creative, and charming melody structures. She creatively uses the rhythms to liberate the compositions, casting the listener in a sphere that they can interpret personally.

Her sense of ambivalence and freedom reimagines contemporary pop and alt folk styles. It is reminiscent of Björk and Alanis Morissette, both of whom intentionally created soundscapes that were both intimate and alienated the listener. We see a similar concept playing out across this album. The title track opens the collection and lays out its essence. A delightful blend of R&B, neo jazz, soul, and lofi flows. Musical accents of FKJ, SZA, Tom Misch, and Leon Bridges drift past like clouds. You’ll see more of this in tracks like ‘Supreme’, ‘Paired’, and ‘Mesh’.

Listening to the album is like being drenched by a fog. There is that sharp freshness, wakefulness that mystifyingly weaves dazing and misty elements. Like a fluid wave it engulfs you in the middle of nowhere. ‘Ten Tons’ especially. Her smoky voice is as scintillating and light as Ella Fitzgerald. In ‘Unique’ and ‘Six of Cups’ a piano line and these refracted vocals rise to a trance plane.

‘Whole’ is an elevated dream. With sensual and romantic sentiments, it winds around you like a frothing vine. And finally, ‘Carousel’, delightfully nostalgic and blue, you can swirl and float away with her vocals. Listen Now!
