Maverick Smith’s ‘Christmas’ is a Festive Rock EP

Maverick Smith has just released a Christmas-themed EP titled ‘CHRISMAS’, a three-track collection that infuses alt rock with festive musical moments. It is designed to explore the many commonplace themes of the season like ‘Coal for Christmas’, ‘Kid at Christmas’ and ‘Jingle Bells’. Each of these tracks details an imagery; a frame of sorts, with storytelling moments, contemplative narratives, and festive, feel-good rock. Ushering in a season of merry, it reinforces that child-like joy, that inexplicable glee, and an encompassing nostalgia.

‘Coal for Christmas’ has its classic rock flavors intermingled with the tinkles, sprinkles, and jingles of Christmas music. So you have the warm textured riffs whisked away by the glassy and electric melodies that uplift and elevate the mood. The vocals have that earnest sentiment, blooming with harmonies and a promise of something wonderful, something familiar and comforting.

‘Kid at Christmas’ is edgy, youthful, and fun. The rhythms have a 90s punk feel, bolstered by active beats and anthemic vocals. It emulates the soaring spirit of a kid at Christmas, brimming with anticipation, excitement. The uncountability of the feeling is what the band explores. There are contemplative windows that ties into its predecessor; both in mood and style.

Lastly, ‘Jingle Bells’, a track that rockifies the universally beloved Christmas jingle. It is atmospheric and broiling with texture. Riffs, beats, bass lines, and a blur of melody fill up the soundscape, driving it up to an alt punk, hard rock frame. The interpretation and the energy are quite interesting. With dark quotients and the drifting rhythms, it’s like Christmas is a whirlwind that forms all around you. Listen Now!
