Kathryn Merriam Delivers Transcendental Folk Album with ‘Rhythm of the Sunlight’

Kathryn Merriam is an ethereal folk artist who creates music on the brink of rustic and ethereal. Inundated with themes of nature, spirit, body, and emotion, she highlights the deltas where these elements intersect with song. It flows like a river, passes like a cloud, blows like the wind, and spreads like spring. The artist has just released her debut album titled ‘Rhythm of the Sunlight’. In it, she draws from its omnipresence, its circadian circumstances, its warmth, its richness, and its ability to mold life. Throughout the collection, you’ll see these properties manifest in the human context as spells of imagination, vitality, contemplation, meditation, and surrender. Listen Now!

‘Actor’ eases us in with oriental flute melodies. Sprinkled with ukulele strings and tinged with blues vocals, it is a hopeful ballad about life opening up. With vivid imagery and narrative lines, the artist infuses with the magnificence of being alive; drawing our attention to the smallest of wonders. The neo-classicals add a dramatic allure to the composition, celebrating the sprouting wakefulness.

‘Lens’ is lush with a measured ambience. With nature folklore, she awakens the senses to the vastness of everything around us. It restores humility, grounds the listener. And these new lenses also foster a true and deep connection to the earth. ‘Waterfall’ is instantly contemplative. It is serene, hypnotic, and transcendental. The artist adopts the consciousness of a waterfall and breathes its energy, essence and current into the composition.

‘Lying Awake, I Wander’ is up next. It romanticizes the art of observation, noticing the small things and the large. The oriental folk returns. Traditional classicals flutter through it to create an intricate world to roam in. In ‘Spaces’, we see a lot of whimsical instrumental patterns. And through these curious pathways, Kathryn’s vocals encourage us to dive deeper into ourselves.

More than throwing open the boundaries of the mind, heart and soul, this collection makes us aware of their many layers, the spaces that they inhabit and the importance that they hold to a fulfilling life. ‘Only You’ will compel you to meditate on your emotional lifestyle. ‘Cocoon’ is a warm embrace that taps into the frequency of healing and growth. The title track is a lilting leap through childhood, light, color, nostalgia, and sentiment.

Like this, each track propels the listener into themselves, to relish and savor the textures, memories, experiences, and moments of a life lived and a life to be lived. And by entangling it with fundamental facets and metaphors of nature, she awakens an interconnectedness between man and his environment, restoring a link that is slowly getting erased.
