JSDAVANI Unpacks the Transience of Human Life in ‘FTCHRS’

Jacoby Davani (JSDAVANI) is a multi-instrumentalist and experimental music artist. Struck with the fresh blooms of contemporary electronica, he crafts soundscapes that depict abstract and scintillatingly absurd themes. His latest project comes in the form of an eleven-track album, titled ‘FTCHRS’. This collection presents live conceptual ambiences that play out in a way that impels the listener to interact with them. Through a cycle of orientation and disorientation, Jacoby creates energy that, in some tracks, tells stories and in others just delivers a state of mind.

Each track seemingly unpacks the transience of human life, perceived and written from new and unprecedented perspectives. With a wealth of cerebral prompts and perhaps even psychedelic insights built into them, the track becomes what your mind envisages. And through these imaginative faculties, the listener gains a sense of liberation.

In ‘LSTDVNTR/ spontaneous living thru combustion’ the artist warps vocals and melodies with jarring luminescence and melting shadows. As you listen to it, we discover a haunting morbidity that is built into the composition that discombobulates. It continuously evolves to never let the mind adjust to it. We see a similar pattern in MR OWL, only this time, it lives in the shimmering pools of ethereal echoes. KNWTHS is also cut from the same cloth with its non-conforming vocals and mercurial flows.

The artist is driven by concept. His mastery lies in how he forges them elegantly with sound. ‘LAFF/Uncontrollably’ is one such example. It is an ambient track fathomed with scattering beats and serene synth screens. He explores the theme with carefree bursts of a child’s laughter. The hyperactivity of the mind recedes and is replaced by soft touches of dopamine and serotonin. He explores a similar technique in ‘MINI YRS’ as well.

‘DRK HAUS’ and ‘MT’D BTTLS’ exude with dazing frames of sound. Lots of texture, sound samples, tonalities, and patterns. He plays around with volume, pitch, and rhythm in a way that transforms the base. And it is riveting to witness. Broken up by slivers of humanistic emotion, they are both imploding sonic spheres.

‘LIFE/ precious and cheap’ concludes the album with a leveled plane. It is a slow burst of melody and sound. Like a 3D card, its revelations are dictated by the angles you view it from. Either it infuses the listener with startling clarity or a dazing fog.

The album is dedicated to the artist’s best friend, Eric Barnes who passed away recently. Speaking about it, Jacoby states, “I've been actively doing things to memorialize his legacy and memory, and this album is one of them.” In light of this, Jacoby’s message about the preciousness of life is made all the more compelling and acquires a beautiful sentiment that bleeds into the audience.
