Powers of the Monk’s ‘Icarus’ Renders A Romantic Folk Absurdity

Powers of the Monk is the whimsical neo-classical, alt folk banner of David Monk and Pontiac Powers. The two singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists are known to create horizon soundscapes, resonant with contemplative vocals and surging melodies. In their latest release, ‘Icarus’, the duo showcase an interesting interpretation of the mythology.

Misty acoustic textures breeze into folk details and romantic melancholy. It is soft, seamless, and as smooth as silk. There is an ethereal quality to it, but also an abstract dimension that borders on absurdity. And the vocals are melodic and carefree in delivery, but underneath it, the complexity, the ambivalence, and the dimension shimmers like the ocean in the sun. And with progression, it shines out with oriental notes and folk rock frames. Listen Now!
