Experience A Folk Gaze Blur in Spouses’ ‘Indian Summer’

Spouses are an alt rock and indie folk band that is all fluid. They love to create surreal soundscapes, bright and vibrant with effervescent texture. Blending the intimacy and contemplative quotients of folk with the transcendental fuzz of shoegaze, they create a niche that elevates both genre types. Taking the rustic and making it youthful and contemporary is where it’s at. Their sophomore release is ‘Indian Summer’, a pastel, sky blue expanse with ringing string melodies, soft baritones that blare at the fringes. It is pleasantly raw and rough - rustic teetering on the blurry edges and surfaces. They hit nostalgia, melancholy, carefree, and the fun of summer simultaneously. And trust me, you won’t be able to get enough!

Smooth and scratchy are the two rolling textures/motifs and the contrast is enjoyable. Flying into moments of chamber pop, anthemic trumpets, surf rock, and folk rock, they go through all the moments. They are the modern Beach Boys, the shoegaze Beatles, a duo that celebrate the vintage in contemplated contexts. It is the perfect youthful summer song, bleached by the sun. The glaring instrumentals transport you in real time, running through a beach town, sweating, surfing, laughing, dreaming. The only colors are blue, white, and yellow, all of them shining you up, till you’re also glistening with them.

The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
