Erik Hansen’s - ‘Seasons of The Wind EP’

Erik Hansen is a rock artist and guitarist from Washington. He is a passionate artist and it translates to his soundscapes. Influenced by rock legends across the board, his music sports eclectic ideas and conceptual bends that speak to his immersive interest in the genre. He is a great performer and his debut EP, ‘Seasons of the Wind’ holds testimony to that. The five-track collection are all incredible brands of hard rock, bolstered by grunge and garage rock sensibilities. Combining the pulse of 70s and 90s rock, this release is both edgy and angsty. You might even spot alternative and prog rock veins streaming through some of the tracks.

This EP defines the artist’s stylistic quotients. He keeps it open and explorative. The definitions come in the form of  instrumental arrangements and melodic evolutions. It is both spontaneous and visionary. You can’t help but admire the odyssey (for that’s how the collection is presented) edged by philosophical ruminations of the vocals.

‘The Road’ has a luminous atmosphere, blooming with riff textures and electric distortions. The melody line and vocals are rough and mercurial. But in the chorus, they gain a dreamy progression that is breathtaking. It seems epiphanic almost, transcendental in its magical realism. We see similar contrasts across the track. In ‘Send Me A Sign’, the punk addled garage rock is devoted to flesh out melancholy. The storminess of hard punching beats and blazing bass lines are tempered with dazing vocal planes.

‘Horizon’ is a folk rock gem with rustic acoustics and a twinge of country blues. Its contemplative air is incredibly lulling and dulcet. ‘Traveler’ opens with an interesting beatline; A fluttering rhythm that rides into the riff-heavy hard rock atmosphere. Erik’s hypnotic vocals infuse them with a psychedelic dimension that perhaps alludes to the liberties and freedom that a traveler enjoys. ‘Forever Dream’ concludes the album with 90s stylings. With face melting riffs, lofty bass lines, and a slow-brewed vocal consciousness, it bridges the style profiles of The Beatles with that of Linkin Park and Breaking Benjamin. Listen Now!
