Eric Schaffer & The Other Troublemakers Come Alive in This Latest Folk Rock Album ‘Dry Lightning’
Eric Schaffer & The Other Troublemakers refine the sphere of country music and folk rock with their refreshing interpretations of the genre. While retaining the core and classic essence of these styles, they uniquely extrapolate it with anthemic spirit, jubilant melancholy, and luminous sentiments. As you listen, the lyrical atmospheres and frames jump out, coming alive in Eric’s expressive baritones and their will to play. The band's album, ‘Dry Lightning’ is the outfit's sophomore album. Spanning across thirteen songs, you’re sure to spot references to The Dave Matthews Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Allman Brothers Band. It is a blend of rustic country soul, southern blues rock and scintillating folk rock. Listen Now!
‘Great Wild Nowhere’ introduces the album. It comes alive in the molten and layered interactions of the guitar riffs, melody lines, gruff textures, and warm baritones. Next up, ‘Mama’s Bogo Blues’. A barn dance essential with mellow banjo melodies, fluid beats, and husky dryness of the vocals.
Acoustic folk numbers float through the textured wings of country rock. ‘A Friend’ is the first of its kind. Nostalgic and contemplative, it is drenched with memories and bubbling camaraderie. It is a beautiful song about two friends who lived a whole life together and grew old together, and who now visit each other, even if it is just for a little while. Other acoustic pleasures come with ‘The Garden’, ‘I Choose You’, ‘Steady As We Go’ and ‘Whiskey Lay Me Down Tonight’.

‘Love’s Got A Way’ has a more contemporary flair, its country superimposed with buoyant soul and blues rock rhythm. This lightness and uplifting energy finds its way into the vocals and tonalities. In contrast, the title track is filled with hard country rock riffs, relentless basslines, and intense emotions.
‘Fire Road 303’ revives the blues with an Elvis Presley interpretation. Rock n roll, swing spirit, and country spells all come together to describe the iconic danger and fun of Fire Road 303.
The album, as indicated by its title, is an explorative tribute and portrait of the west. A lot of the instrumentation is influenced by the wilderness, simplicity, idyllic plainness, and age old plaintive sentiments of the Wild West (as they call it). Its culture, traditions, and way of life percolates through each composition, be it the savvy blues, charismatic americana or the bare boned acoustic folk.
