Bryanna Rain Takes Whimsy to a New Level with Experimental Album ‘Petrichor’

Bryanna Rain takes whimsy to a whole new level with her latest album, ‘Petrichor’. The singer-songwriter has a very unique pop repertoire, blending her diverse passions to bring a new variance to it. As an author, her soundscapes are infused with sonic stories just as much as lyrical tales. We see her love for video games in the sound effects that often color and texture her work. And like this, across the album, you’ll pick up on a spectrum of themes, perspectives, interests, and explorations that are thoroughly engaging. Listen Now!

The collection of songs perfectly encapsulates the sentiment of Petrichor. ‘Travelogue’ opens the album with mellow orchestras of neo-classicals. Fleshed out by lo-fi electronica and chill violins, it is quirky and contemporary in the best way. Picking up right where this track leaves off, ‘Arcades, Aeroplanes’ picks up without missing a beat.

And the same thing happens with the third song as well. The first three tracks is a continuous odyssey that is presented as a single unit. Each one extends the context and journey of its predecessors and it's such an innovative and novel way of presentation. In ‘When Ferretheads Attack’ we experience a colorful electronic modernity. Experimental rhythms, new textures, and shifting energy tides crafts a story.

‘Pandemica’ has a dance-intensive beat line, with 90s hip-hop accents and contemplative rooms of sonic vibrations. The next two tracks ‘Good Evening, LavenderWax’ and ‘Blaming Simar’ are twin singles. With surreal and dream synths, the artist crafts ethereal romance. We see more dream sensibilities in the title track but presented differently.

Tracks like ‘Blaming Vedant’ ‘String Theory’ and ‘Phosphene, Dancing’ are beat intensive manifestoes with experimental facets as well. In ‘Theme from B+E (Adventures)’ we see symmetrical electronic sequences, elevated with color and vibrancy. With mellow dance beats, the artist concludes the album on a contemplative note, perhaps to let you process the diversity of her experiments and see the value in it.

Throughout the album, the vibes and sonic frames are mercurial continuums and intuitive escapades. They are all encapsulated by the spirit of adventure and perhaps a sonic activism to stretch the bounds of music as we perceive them today. Oscillating between the commercial and contemporary, we encounter a brilliance that we will carry with us.
