Alex Uhlmann’s ‘Home’ : A Swirling Alt Pop Sphere

Alex Uhlmann is a Luxembourg-born singer-songwriter, artist and music director with a vision that is sophisticated and expansive. His technique and sound design poses an elegant craft that when absorbed is very affecting. Untethered by the contours of a single genre, his music spreads out, forming across diverse genres to realize the emotional destinies of his music. His latest release is the ‘Home’ album, a ten track collection that encapsulates the spaces between home and the self.

Fluidly spilling across the spectrum of space, memories, time, and nostalgia, he beautifully captures the multitude of home and its essence.

The album is introduced with ‘Never Be The Same’, a swirling chamber pop that is detailed with ethereal synths, soft pop, and acoustic instrumentals. Alex’s warm baritones are a moving orb, floating with luminous sentiments across this backdrop. The composition captures the irreplaceability of ‘home’ as we know it, carving out all the ways that it unchangeably makes us who we are. This is followed by the title track, a mellow and fluid acoustic pop that is as alive as the theme itself.

‘Only for a Minute’ has a playful spirit to it, captured by fluttering harmonies, instrumental specks, and expressive violin arcs. The atmosphere spans like a horizon, wrinkles with emotion, inflates with meaning, and shines with a luminous aura. There are lifting dream pop dimensions and an electronic rise that is reminiscent of Coldplay. The textures, the feeling, and the color play. ‘Wild and Free’ follows along a similar vein. A slow pop that grows with grand sonic design.

‘Insane’ follows with a neo-classical wave. It is an undulating flow that splits into bare acoustics, glinting melodies, and bluesy guitar tails. ‘Fading Away’ is engulfed by a fleshy synth sphere. The former is modern with dazing electric fringes that are festive, orchestral, and vibrant.

‘Paris Or Rome’ and ‘Complicated’ are both earthy, warm, and nostalgic songs. It is quite powerful to experience the acoustics lift and evolve into an emotional grandeur. If you enjoyed the acoustic-pop-rock horizon of One Republic or The Scripts, then you’re sure to enjoy the spanning moments of these tracks.

‘Because of You’ cultivates a swelling, contemplative swirl of instrumental. The vocals are like ships at night, sailing through a dense ocean. The contrast is rich and affecting. The album ends with a Sterio Remix of ‘Only For a Minute’. Inspired by its inherently dynamic, vibrant, and fun curves of melody, it is cultivated into an electro dance frame. There are moments of house, EDM, and techno, all spangled, splitting, and pulsing with dance. Listen Now!
