Album Review/ Synth Pop : New Citizen Kane’s ‘Tales of Morpheus’

New Citizen Kane opens up the portal for a new sonic experience with his latest album, ‘Tales of Morpheus’. The collection images and visualises a new world with spectacular sonic characters, edgy creations, and journeys that you’ll remember for a long time to come. When you think about electro pop or new age electronica, you think about innovation, perspective, chromatic narratives, and of course emotion, but portrayed in refreshing realities. New Citizen Kane checks all these boxes to create grand landscapes of sound. The banner was founded by singer-songwriter and artist, Kane Michael Luke. This album comes after a brief hiatus, bringing so many new and exciting ideas to light. The soundscapes are cultivated with catchy grooves, electric melodies, and dramatic beats. All of it encircling a powerful storytelling sphere that is deep and full of dimensions.

‘Morpheus in the Club’ introduces the album, a track that comes alive with so many melodic motifs, emphatic bass lines, and a powerful subtext. It has that feel-good high that makes you savor the listening experience. We see versions of this in tracks like ‘Disco Love’. With its mellow and moody jazz tangents and soul funk accents, it is just fun to flow with it. ‘Buy Me A Ticket’ and ‘Forget the World’ also present pop in similar ways. Raised by electronic flares and colorful sounds, it is evocative and full of feeling.

‘Killer Charisma’, ‘Overdrawn’, and ‘Meet Me On Street Corners’ are all electro power and electro forward songs that catch and wield you into energy spheres. The beats are spectacular. We see some experimental elements, but they only set up for the other, more dense, conceptual and explorative tracks in collection. In tracks like ‘Alchemy’ and ‘Gotta Secret- Electro Bounce Album Mix’, we see trap mixing in with hyper pop and dance music to create a spectacular boom.

These are contrasted by slower, more feeling-based tracks like ‘Could Have Been’ and ‘Contra Botafogos’. Striking eloquent balances like this across the album, he creates an intricate listening atmosphere that complements it all. There are so many variants that manifest across the album and so many more songs that show off the many dimensions of the artist. Make sure to check them out!
