Album Review : DENIM DAN’s 25TH ANNIVERSARY 1999 - 2024 Collection

Denim Dan’s singer-songwriter and alt folk ethos forms a mellow plane. It is a web of acoustics, storytelling, and melodies that carries on in a timeless loop. There’s an intrinsically human quality to it that manifests in the rhythm, in the voice, in the texture and tone. This year, 2024, marks the artist’s 25 year old career in music, one that is an extension of his passion, imagination, ideas, and authorship. The collection, released under the name of ‘DENIM DAN 25TH ANNIVERSARY 1999 - 2024’ carried 20 tracks. And as you listen to it, you’ll find yourself journeying through such specific frames of life while simultaneously experiencing the universality of being human.

The stylings are influenced by folk, blues rock across the board from The Beatles and Nick Drake, Hank Williams and Neil Young to Joni Mitchell and James Taylor. Tinged with country and retro rock, they gain such beautiful dimensions. The artist knows how to infuse the blend, elevating it with the subtlest of touches and slightest of strokes.

In ’3AM (I Call You Up)’, he uses accordion floors to bring out the latent sentiments and sensibilities that strikes you post breakup. They rise into your nights, forming out of the shadows. ‘Not Always Skies of Blue’, we see the country accents scape an explorative and experimental vibrance for the rock solos to roam in. It’s incredible how he sees function, technique, concept, and emotion in all things musical. Follow it and you’ll find a well of intention and artistic purpose.

In tracks like ‘Taking It Slow’ and ‘Don’t Throw it Away’, there’s a lot of artistic intuition and spontaneity. We see melodic tangents that encompass the main compositional stem. There’s a lot of those velvet, moody rock blues that expand with inexplicable emotional quotients. They spark a daze, a dimension, and a cerebral dynamism. ‘Let Your Love Fall Down on Me (Too)’ also ascends and flows with these electric blues guitars. Stricken with melancholic storytelling and vintage design, it is quite delicious to get lost in it.

If you want to enjoy the cinematic appeal of the blues, then you better get into tracks like ‘Things Have Changed’, ‘Where The Sun Does Shine’ and ‘Guess I’ll Be Alright’. Both of these compositions have whimsical and performative sequences and themes that travel in the sphere of theatrics. Be it the instrumental pulse, the vocal evocation, and the general melodies design.

‘No Lies in Blue Skies’ and ‘Go Where Life Leads You’ are feel-good tracks with a wise pulse. While the former is contemplative in a melancholic kind of way, the latter drifts with a lightness and a freedom that you can’t help but imbibe into yourself. Listen Now!

The collection is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
