The Plastic Harpoons Cast A Vintage Rock Spell With ‘Better Than Dying’

Plastic Harpoons is an American surf rock band that is inspired by all things fluid and mellow. Sun washed and beach tinged, this Santa Barbara based group revives the vintage flavors of The Beach Boys and mingle them with street indie rock influences. You can almost smell the salt and hear the lush waves. It sounds like summer. ‘Better Than Dying’ is Plastic Harpoons’ latest single. It is an existential drama playing out one contemplation at a time. Swirled into a hopeful narrative, it paints a bittersweet portrait of everyday life.

The riffs are highways, blurring boundaries and contours. It has a mellow funk groove that, without disturbing the smoothness, cultivates a sonic dimension. Synth sprinkles tempers the warm tones. And rippling through the chorus and the verses, it is as refreshing as a cool drink on a hot day. And just like this, the band plays subtly with contrasts to reinforce the ambivalence of the human experience. Listen Now!
