Matyascorvinus Delights with Pensive Strings in Latest EP ‘Across The Acheron’

Listening to Matyascorvinus is a meditative endeavor. His melodic pieces are sublime excitations of a melancholic mind, as it roams through valleys of shadows, fear, sorrow, and loss. There’s always a factor of abstractness, an unknowable quotient that the artist weaves in. The strings dally and dance around this abyss with aching beauty, simplicity, and serenity. His mastery lies in how he lends such distinct personalities to the tracks. Their ambiences are rich with staunch intuition as they float through spheres of feeling. The title track is embossed with ruminative turmoil as it oscillates between dualities. It erupts with momentum for a minute before the clarity wanes and the dilemmas surge again. 

It is followed by the lilting curiosity of ‘Inroads Into The Unknown’. Each melodic arc glints with observation as it sets out the features of the new path. It is initially a purely a sensual progression, then slowly dwindles with the affectations of the mind. You can feel the humanness slip into the frame of objectivity. The gradients that Matya achieves with simple acoustic strokes is tremendous. We see a similar sonic craft and phenomenon in ‘Sail Away, Stormwing’ as well. 

Tracks like ‘Austral Winter’ and ‘Where The Winds Eradicate’ have a pronounced sense of austerity weaved into them. The artist infuses them with isolating and lonely sensibilities that pool into the base of your stomach.

‘The Homecoming’ concludes the track. The piano piece marks joy with mellow lifts and soft drama. It is underscored by streams of ethereal synths that overwhelm the composition with sentiments like love, gratitude, and happiness. They form along the brink of euphoria, restrained only by the inexplicable feeling of melancholia. 

Within his exploration of universal themes, he deliberately creates a mesmerizing void that beckons to the listener, to come closer and immerse into it and understand its nuanced nature. He debuted in 2020 and has released seven singles and two EPs/albums.
