Josh Savage’s Melancholic Pop Takes Beautiful Forms in ‘seeing red feeling blue EP’

Josh Savage is about musical romanticism. It manifests in the themes, the melodic aesthetics, and rhythmic flows. Even the energy and sound textures are oriented to bring out this concept. And the context he brings these elements into are so beautifully contemporary. A vibe that blends Nick Drake and Neil Young with artists like Sufjan Stevens, Ed Sheeran, and James Taylor. Lyrical and contemplative majesty combined with free and explorative soundscapes. His latest release is his EP titled ‘Seeing Red Feeling Blue’. It is a mellow dream span that catalogs intricate states of mind and philosophical consciousness.

‘Fight Another Day’ opens the EP with an uplifting but empathetic tone. It is an eloquent mix of alt folk, contemporary pop, and other lo-fi synth pop influences. With scooting beats and melodic lines in hooks, the track will remind you of artists like Cigarettes After Sex, Amber Run, and others like them. ‘Echoes’ is a slower, more intentionally melodic piece. With acoustics phasing into ethereal combustions of riffs, synths, and vocals, it grasps the theme powerfully.

‘Heaven on Earth’ is a ready-made acoustic, singer-songwriter track. With just the guitar and his vocals, Josh creates a layered frame of finding the love of your life. Flushed with sentiments of gratitude, celebration, and reflection, it is extremely heartfelt. ‘Winner’ forms in a similar vein. It is darker and deeper. When you look at its melodies, rhythms, and vocal emotions, they define a hopeless space.

Concluding the collection is ‘Sleep on it’, a textured, dark pop composition. Dripping with the bluesy/dreamy/romantic melancholy, it is easy to become lost in the silky inflections of Josh’s voice. Its expressive quotients are based on genuinity and depth of feeling. Like all the tracks in the EP, you’ll find yourself uncovering perspectives in the gaps and gradients of his performance.
